"I See By My Outfit" by Peter Beagle

This was originally written in 1965 but has been reprinted – a great story of two beatniky guys who ride Heinkel scooters across the U.S. A fun read, I recommend it.
Get it from your local library or maybe buy it from Amazon. There are several different cover styles:
