This hoodie is on sale for £10 so it might even be worth it for some State-side Haynes Manual devotees to order it. Type in “scooter” to see what else this site has to offer.

An educational book with a scooter on it? I’m so on it! Just $22.79 at Amazon:
“Renowned author and journalist Sheila McLeod Arnopoulos uses her talent for investigative reporting to take us deep into the poorest villages in India. Yet, far from being passive victims of their circumstances, the women who live there-often illiterate, yet possessing outstanding leadership skills-have joined forces and are making astute use of microcredit to break the cycle of poverty. Microcredit was launched by Bangladeshi economist Muhammad Yunus (for which he won the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize), and consists of very small loans made primarily to women for the production of essential commodities or to start small businesses. Based on a number of trips to India between 2001 and 2008, Arnopoulos shows her sense of solidarity and desire for authenticity by sharing the daily life of these villagers of all different ages. However, the first-person account of her extensive travels-on foot, in a rickshaw, by bus or train-focuses primarily on these women’s inspiring success stories.”

A paperback with a blue small (?) frame on it is always welcome. Only available used. Here’s a description:
Dave and Andy are two classmates from a strict Catholic School in 70s London. Dave is desperate to escape his stifling Irish home life and Andy the cultural trappings of his traditional Polish family. Both dream of opportunities afforded to the strangers on the silver screen. And by chance, they end up working part-time in their local cinema in Notting Hill. They soon discover that being heroes of their own lives and impressing the stars on the ground is a challenge. They embark on a voyage of discovery far more exciting than anything they’ve seen on film. But when the cinema is threatened with closure, they realise that more than their new found freedom is at risk!

A nice light book of things that you should accomplish before you turn 60. Apparently one of these includes going on a manic shopping spree on a scooter. That seems doable.

Things to Do Now That You’re 50 on Amazon.com

You can find a couple copies of this book on Amazon.com and it’s available from the publisher who also created the bible of ScooterSwag — Vespa Forever. Of course you’ll have to figure out how to get them to return your e-mails. I have tried ordering both books with no luck after repeated efforts. Hence the “rare bit” categorization. : (
Here’s a description:
“If Piaggio (the Vespa manufacturer) had published a children’s book back in the 50s, it would probably have looked like “Enrico’s Vespa”. Why? Because the prize-winning designer Elena Pongiglione has illustrated this book. She designed most of the official Vespa artwork for Piaggio in the 50s and 60s. Today, deep into the Internet Age and 50 years after the great era of commercial art at Piaggio, this children’s book recaptures the spirit of the legendary Italian scooters. On his father’s Vespa, Enrico sets out on a fantastic tour through Europe. He is joined by his sister Elena, the teddy bear Yo Yo, the cat Minou and the dog Wow Wow. “Enrico’s Vespa” is an exciting book for children and a collector’s piece for all parents.”
This book also includes a board game and a cut-out sheet.
NEWS FLASH!
Apparently both “Vespa Forever” and “Enrico’s Vespa” are available at ScooterProducts.co.uk.
